Contribute to our Anthologies
On this page you will find
information about contributing essays or artwork to future
anthologies published by Avalonia. Please read through the
following information carefully in the first instance before
making a proposal, this will save a lot of time and effort
- both for yourself and the editor(s) involved.
Since publishing our first anthology,
Hekate Keys to
the Crossroads in 2006, we have produced a number of anthologies
bringing together the writings of diverse writers, researchers,
mystics and teachers on topics which are often under-represented
in modern magical and pagan publishing. Our anthologies are
works of passion, just like the rest of our titles, they are
not driven by the need for commercial success alone, it is
far more important for us to work towards offering our readers
and contributors something new, exciting and something which
pushes at the boundaries of what is available, thereby living
up to our motto of "expanding the esoteric horizons".
It provides writers and artists with the opportunity to share
their work with a different audience, alongside other writers
who share a passion for the same subject.
We have a number of anthologies
planned for 2010 and 2011, and we are keen to include contributions
by a wide variety of people from all over the world. The editor
of an anthology typically invites individuals he or she feels
have something to contribute on the subject they are covering
personally, however we are also interested in hearing from
other potential contributors who would like to have their
voice heard. It is important however, to help you understand
the type of work we do, that you familiarise yourself with
at least one of the anthologies we have previously published,
before submitting a proposal to our editors. This will help
you understand and have a realistic expectation of what the
project will entail, whilst also giving you an idea of the
quality of work which our editors will expect. Though of course
each project is different, you will find a list of our
current anthologies here.
Please note that there is no
payment for contributions, though contributors will receive
complimentary copies of the anthology when it is published;
all contributors will receive full credit for their work and
retain copyright to their contributions.
Each editor, and each project
will have slightly different submission guidelines, but
all of them will expect the following:
1/ Original well written material,
presented in clear English.
2/ Research presented should be backed up by a bibliography,
and all quotations and other relevant claims should be footnoted
or otherwise substantiated. we encourage a personalised,
rather than academic approach in the styles of essays so
that each writer can get his or her voice over sufficiently.
3/ Contributions vary according to the anthology, but are
typically between 1500 - 5000 words per essay.
It is up to the individual editor
to decide whether or not they are able to include your work
in the projects they are working on, so to avoid disappointment
we suggest that you contact the editor in the first instance
with a brief outline of what you propose. That way they can
tell you whether or not it would be suitable for their project.
It might be that someone else is already writing something
with the same approach, or that what you have in mind simply
does not fit with the project.
We are also nearly always interested in submissions of artwork
for the anthologies we produce, though the artwork often is
submitted by writers to illustrate their work. There is no
harm in contacting us however with your ideas!
We are currently considering
proposals for the following projects:
1/ Vs. - A magickal and
mythological exploration of the theistic concepts of duality,
unity, polarity and paradox (editor: Kim Huggens) [Deadline
April 2010]
This anthology seeks to draw together a diverse collection
of papers examining the theistic concepts of duality, unity,
conflict, polarity and paradox from a Pagan, magickal, and
mythological perspective, in the hope that we can better
understand the nature and necessity of tension between one
and other one and between human and God, accepting
the distance between two ideas and states of being as the
foundation of the path towards enlightenment and union.
. If you are interested in contributing an essay to this
collection, please email Kim with a brief outline of what
you would like to write in the first instance, to [ kimhuggens@yahoo.co.uk
]
2/ Momento Mori [details

3/ Dragons, Eagles &
Toads [details coming soon] (editor: Dafydd ap Bran)
