Much of what we have learned about the magic and beliefs of the past has been drawn from the literature of the time, from plays, stories, myths and legends. Storytellers like bards kept traditions alive through memorising and spreading legends and sagas. Fiction captures the environment of times and places as a landscape on which to tell tales as old as mankind itself. Magical fiction emphasises the subtle and unseen world which always surrounds us, and its influence on the material and mundane.
